Da ich den Oryx im Wildpark von Bahrain verpasst habe, musste ich aller Warnungen, wie schlimm dieser Zoo doch sei, zum Trotz doch noch einen Blick in den Dubai Zoo werfen. Im Hintergrund hyperaktive Springböcke, die dem eher gemütlichen Oryx das Leben zur Hölle machen.

As I didn't manage to see the oryx in the wildlife park in Bahrain I had to have a look at the Dubai zoo although everyone warned me about the poor condition of the zoo. In the background some hyperactive springboks that disturb the peaceful life of the rather relaxed oryx.

Mit Kollegen im China-Restaurant anlässlich des Chinesischen Neujahrsfestes. Natürlich ganz traditionell und elegant mit Pepsi aus der Dose.

In a Chinese restaurant with some colleagues in order to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Very traditional and classy: the can of Pepsi.

Betriebsausflug auf eine unserer Baustellen. Inder so weit das Auge reichte. Es war gerade Schichtwechsel und zehn Sekunden nachdem ich das Bild gemacht habe, kamen Busse an und alle rannten auf einmal zu diesen Bussen, um noch einen Platz zu bekommen, die sie zurück in ihre 8-Bett-Container ohne Strom und Wasser zu befördern.

Site visit with our office to on of our construction sites. Indian construction workers everywhere. They just finished their shift and ten seconds after I took the picture, some busses arrived and all at once all of them started running towards these busses to get a seat in of them which will take them back to their 8-person-container without water and electricity.

Endlich habe ich herausgefunden, was es mit den Häusern auf sich hat, die für zwei oder drei Tage unter Tonnen von Lichterketten verschüttet werden: Ali meinte, in diesem Haus wird geheiratet.

I finally found out why some random houses are buried under tons of fairy lights for two or three days: Ali told me that someone from this house is getting married.

Meine heissgeliebte Sheikh Zayed Road in Flammen. Ein Hochhaus, das noch nicht ganz fertig war, ging in den frühen Morgenstunden in Flammen auf. Ich wunderte mich schon, dass überhaupt keine Autos fuhren und dass ich kein Taxi finden konnte, als ich zur Arbeit wollte und fing an, zu Fuss zu laufen. Als ich dann an diesem Gebäude vorbeikam, wusste ich warum. Nach einem 45-minütigen, strammen Fussmarsch kam ich völlig verschwitzt und zu spät im Büro an. Sehr gerne.

My beloved Sheikh Zayed Road on fire. One of the high risers under construction caught fire early in the morning. I was wondering why there weren't any cars on the road and why I couldn't find a cab to take me to work and I started walking towards work. When I passed this building I knew why the road has been closed. After 45 min of brisk walking I arrived in the office- way too late and soaked with sweat. Great morning.

Wieder mal in einem deutschen Restaurant. Dieses hatte eine nette und ruhige Atmosphäre (im anderen haben andauernd zwei Bayerinnen im Dirndl und Mikrofonen durch die Wiedergabe bayerischen Liedgutes jegliche Konversation unterbunden), sah ziemlich deutsch aus, hätte fast irgendwo auf dem Hunsrück sein können. Sang Ok mit Kartoffelpüree, Würstchen und einem anständigem Bitburger Bier.

Another German restaurant. This one was rather nice and quite (unlike the other one where they had two Bavarian girls with dirndls and microphones who made any converstaion impossible by singing Bavarian songs all night long), it looked rather German, it almost could have been somewhere on the German countryside. Sang Ok with mashed potatoes, sausages, and a proper Bitburger beer.
